The twins were a great distraction for my Mom during her time laid up on her rented hospital bed. Denise brought them over a couple of times after school to see Grandma and I, and they were pretty funny. It was "Turn off the TV Week" at their school, and Paxton wasn't handling it well. The first day it started, Paxton spent 45 minutes crying in the other room while Ali, Denise & I hung with Grandma. I'm not exaggerating. 45 minutes of pitiful, heart-wrenching crying. And by heart-wrenching, I mean hilarious. It's hard to take someone serious after crying for 45 minutes straight about not being able to play the DS for 5 minutes. He's adorable.
Paxton finally came around and joined us in the other room since his tantrum wasn't working. He quickly became intrigued by this tool my Mom got from the hospital that helps to make sure you don't catch pneumonia - it checks your lung function. Basically, you breath out as much as you can, and then you suck in your air while this contraption is in your mouth, and you are trying to do it for as long as you can, while maintaining this little blue dial between the lines. In other words, if you've never seen one, you'll have no idea what I'm talking about, but it sucked Ali & Pax right in.
They also had fun crawling into bed with Mema to read with her. The first night they came to visit, they just let Grandma read them a book while they enjoyed their Popsicles.
Paxton also lost his second tooth that night, and he was so stoked to put it under his pillow to see what the tooth fairy brought him this time - last time it was a $2 bill!
The next time they came over, Paxton didn't cry for a whole 45 minutes, but you could tell this kid despises "Turn off the TV Week." We kept him entertained for a while, and soon enough they were ready to crawl into bed with Grandma - this time they wanted to read to her! Paxton was amazing. That kid knew almost every word to "The Giving Tree" and he read it from start to finish to Grandma! Ali tried really hard, but she chose a much harder book, so after a few rough pages, she let Grandma take over. The teacher in me wanted to give them 4's for effort, the Aunt in me wanted to kiss 'em and cry a little - way to go guys!
Go ahead and disregard Ali's little interruption and my small case of the giggles. Paxton was too precious not to include the video.
Thanks for the good distractions kids!
